Important information for your first appointment with us
Thank-you for coming to see us at Ava Fertility and Gynaecology
Dr Stephen Elgey and team welcome you to our practice. To assist in your first visit please read the following carefully.
Confirmation of Appointment
You will receive an SMS to notifying you of the planned appointment 7 days prior. 3 days before your appointment will be sent a sms asking you to confirm your appointment. Please make sure to reply ‘Yes’ to keep the appointment. If unable to attend please call us to re-schedule.
Appointments where you do not notify us of cancellation may incur a $100 rebooking fee.
When to arrive:
We aim to run on time and ask that you arrive 10 minutes before your appointment time to complete an assessment questionnaire. If you are unable to attend the appointment, please call us at least one full working day in advance. Due to unexpected patient needs, sometimes our doctor runs behind schedule. Please allocate at least 60 minutes of time for your appointment.
Please bring to the consultation:
- Referral letter if we have not already received it. If this a fertility referral and your partner is attending, they will also need a referral for assessment or consultation.
- List of current medications
- Bloods or radiology scans/reports
- Any letters, tests, x-rays or scans concerning your current problem or other major medical problems you think might be relevant.
Telehealth Consultations
We are very happy to offer telehealth consultations when travel or timing is difficult. Meeting face to face is preferred as we may need to perform some tests, such as blood pressure which cannot be done remotely.
- Initial Consultations: must be via video link (not phone). It is a Medicare requirement and no rebate if by phone
- Review Consultations: Video link preferred, but we can arrange by phone
- Video link is by our own in browser app – you do not need to download apps like Zoom
- Please be in a quiet environment with no distractions.
- We cannot proceed if you are driving due to safety reasons.
- Usual consultation fees apply
Please make sure that we have received any paperwork or results well beforehand, as trying to find these during the consultation can increase time and your costs.

Prescription Repeats
Prescriptions repeats always require a consultation as we are required to ensure that it is still necessary and safe to continue. Simple requests for prescription only can often be managed by a brief phone consultation and bulk-billing may apply. Management of other issues will require a full consultation.
New medication requests require a full consultation.

Robina
For access and parking, it is simplest to put in your navigation app the following;
1/6 Waterfront Place, Robina Qld 4226
Our rooms face onto Robina Town Centre Drive, and are Suite 1 Ground floor, Eastside Building
Getting here:
Access via the Eastside Building at end of Waterfront Place. There is 2hr parking provided. There is no need to enter the main foyer of the building as our office is at the front of the building facing Robina Town Centre Drive, on ground level, and last office on walkway. Please allow extra travel time if using M1 in morning or around school times.
Sunnybank
For access and parking, it is simplest to put in your navigation app the following;
Sunnybank Private Hospital, 245 McCullough Street, Sunnybank, 4109
We are Suite 27 Ground Floor of the Sunnybank Private Specialist Centre.
The Sunnybank Private Specialist Centre is accessed via Sunnybank Private Hospital. This building is directly on the right as you enter the driveway and is white and modern. There is free parking both underneath and up the ramp on the right as you enter. Our office is on the ground floor and at the end of the corridor. Please allow extra travel time if using M1 in morning.afternoon or around school times.

Consultation Fees**
This practice sets private fees and payment is expected at time of consultation. For telehealth appointments test forms and prescription requests may be held until the account is settled.
A referral from a doctor is required for a Medicare rebate.
Partner co-consultations may be bulk-billed if they are also referred in most cases. However, when both you and your partner need full investigation or workup (usually when planning partner IVF which is where one provides the egg and the other carries the pregnancy), the partner co-consult is 50% of the fee due to the increase in complexity.
* If you may have reached the Extended Medicare Safety Net (EMSN) threshold for increased rebates. Fees and rebates may vary. Your entitlement to the Medicare Safety Net is determined by Medicare
